Programme

Recife
Recife is the multicultural capital of the state of Pernambuco with much Dutch influences and more than 3 million inhabitants, whereof a lot of them are having a name that sounds Dutch. Maurits van Oranje built the first bridge in South-America and made the urban developers make a good structured plan, thus making the base for the current Recife. Because of the recent radical renovation the buildings (also those of the Portuguese) are in full glory to admire in old Recife.
Besides the historical city with the beautiful long sand beach, is Recife the biggest regional centre of economy, art and culture, education, sports and tourism.
In the evening hours a big number of streets are closed for traffic and terraces are made where people can enjoy the delicious fish and meat dishes, for which the region is famous. After that there will be drinking and dancing on the 'Frevo', the Pernambucanian variant of the samba.

On the Praça de Republica there are some Government buildings with between them the Theatre Santa Isabel, a beautiful neoclassical building from 1850, which can be visited between 14.00 hours and 15.00 hours.
The same square is houses the tribunal and to the opposite the Palácio das Princeses, the palace of the ‘governador’ of Pernambuco.

At Rua do Imperador 206 one finds the Capela Dourada from 1697. This ‘golden’ chapel, a beautiful example of the Brazilian religious architecture, like the São Francisco in Salvador.
The Casa Cultura is originnally a prison from the 19th century, but the interior is totally renovated and reformed in a handicraft shoppingcentre. The former prisoner cells on all 3 floors have been converted into small shops where you will find a great choice of products that are made of silver, leather and clay. Foz do Iguaçu
In Foz do Iguaçu has the widest and according to many people the most beautiful waterfalls of the world.

At 640 kilometers from Curitiba, Foz has been investing in new itineraries for the so-called ecological tourism adepts.

The beauty of its 275 falls that form an impressive spectacle of the Waterfalls added to a tourism infrastructure - complete hostelry network, space for events, rich gastronomy - make of Foz do Iguaçu an ever more attractive destination for those who seek destinations that ally nature with ecological programms. The first step to modernize and increment the tourist flow was the privatization of the National Park of Iguaçu. In a first phase, a new Visitors Center was built with capacity to take 12 thousand people per day, equipped with tourist reception service and 24-hour banking services, souvenir store, telephones, restrooms, parking for cars, shuttles, and buses. The transportation system in the Park's interior is now done with modern two-store tourism buses with panoramic view, accompanied by guides who give information in many languages.

Situated at the border of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, 275 waterfalls are falling down more than 80 metres over a width of 3 kilometres downwards through a special and accrued tropical rainforest.
From afar you can hear the sound of the always falling water mass, which forms a curtain beyond the green back wall of the jungle with many birds and colourful butterflies. In the rainy period the quick streaming water has a brownish colour, the water is clear in the dry season. The whole area is a Parque Nacional and is listed on the world heritage of the United Nations.

Definitely worth a visit is the Itaipúdam, which is constructed for revival of energy and is one of the biggest dams of the world.

After breakfast a walk-excursion to the Brazilian side of the waterfalls.
Rest of the day at leisure to, for example, visit the city or make an excursion by helicopter over the waterfalls. This is only possible with a clear sky.

After arrival meet and greet with our local representative and transfer to the hotel of your choice. Rest of the day at leisure.
You will stay in hotel Mar Palace or hotel Portinari.

Rio de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro is a bubbling city of beach, samba, carnival and soccer with more than 9 million inhabitants. Many soccer players show what they can on the world-famous Copacabana and Ipanema beaches.

The 'Cidade Maravilhosa' is probably discovered in January 1502 by the Portuguese Gonçalo Coelho, when he thought he landed in the mouth of a river, and therefor named the place Rio (river) de Janeiro (January). Several years later the famous Amerigo Vespucci saw this area and made it known to the world that 'if somewhere on earth a Paradise exists, it must be here'. Because of its site at the Bay of Guanabara amidst tropical hills and with exotic beaches, the metropole has a big attraction to many, wtiness the fact that it is the most fotogenic and most fotographed city in the World.
Known throughout the World for its Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, the Maracana football stadium and the bubbling and swinging Carnival. But also the Pão the Açucar (Sugarloaf) and the Christ statue on the 710 meter high Corcovado, with a fantastic view on Rio, are a visit more than worth. The City is surrounded by lush tropical mountains, the large bay with many ships and the white beaches. It gives the City a fairytale atmosphere, but reality often is different. It is a real metropole that lives 24 hours per day, with many modern but also very poor neighbourhoods (favela's). The carioca's (inhabitants of Rio) colour the city with many colours, complemented by samba, bossa nova, carnival and footbal on the beaches.

day 11
Entire day of excursion along the many sights of this vibrating city.
You will bring a visit to the old city, you will go by cable railway to the Sugarloaf and at the end of the day you will go to the Christ-statue on the Corcovado, when the view at sunset is at its best.
Lunch included in a typical barbeque restaurant.

day 12
Entire day of leisure to make, for example, a walk along the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema or just to relax at one of the terraces and watch the Carioca's.

day 13
At the end of the day on own ocassion to the airport for your flight to continue your journey through Brazil or to go back to Europe.
