Salvador de Bahia
With approximately 2,5 million inhabitants Salvador is the capital of the state of Bahia and according to many Brazilians the most beautiful city of the country. When you take a walk through the Pelourinho- quarter, you will understand the reason of this statement. Churches, museums, colonial houses from the 17th and 18th century. And everything is in a different colour, from sky blue to hell yellow and everything inbetween.

In the restored and old city the heart of the Afro- Brazilian culture beats loudly, because 65% of the population is black. Every evening samba and reggae rhythms sound out of the many café’s and bars.

The city and the surroundings have 50 kilometres of beaches, nice beach bars, colourful divans and parasols and the beachvolleybal fields are giving the integer a cosy and pleasant atmosphere.

day 2
You will have the whole day off to discover the Cidade Alta and the Cidade Baixa (the upper city and lower city) and the historical district Pelourinho.
Lunch or dinnertip: restaurant Sorriso da Dadá in Pelourinho.

day 3 Salvador to Praia do Forte ca. 80 km
Pick up of your rental car at approx. 10.00 hrs at the Localiza office. After that you will drive relaxed on a good road, following the coast, to Praia do Forte to stay the night.

Praia do Forte
Praia do Forte means beach and sea turtles. The cosy village borrows itself perfectly for a longer stay. Near the village is the reservation and breeding ground for sea turtles, the TAMAR project. This reservation has 12 kilometres of barren and original beach for the turtles to lay their eggs in all peace and quietness.
Out of Praia do Forte, countless excursions and adventure tours to the inland can be made.

For tourists and especially the youth there is a lot to do in Praia do Forte. There is a lot of music, numerous bars and restaurants that are opened untill the small hours. Further, many popular activities can be done, like many water sports, horse back riding, canoeing and trekkings through the neighbouring nature reservation.

The area around Praia do Forte is crossed by small rivers and surrounded by natural forests. The surf and coral reefs are forming beautiful natural swimming pools. With an average temperature of 27 degrees, the weather is always nice enough in Praia do Forte to undertake something.

day 4 Praia do Forte to Aracaju ca. 275 km
After breakfast you will drive further along the green coast and on the way you will see nice small villages like Estançia and São Cristovão. You will spend the night in Aracaju, this is a provence city with a boulevard of several kilometres long.

day 5 Aracaju to Maceió ca. 296 km

Before you arrive in Maceió you can make a stop in Marechal Deodoro, this used to be the capital of the state Alagoas. You will spend the night in Maceió.

Maceió
Maceió is the capital of the state Alagoas, situated at a precious coast. This city has a colonial past and kept it well, because of the fact that the architecture from that time is trimmed and restored. The Palacio do Governomento and the Iglesia Bom Jesus dos Martires are good examples.

Maceió is famous for its beaches, of which is said that they are among the best of Brazil.
The total coastline of Maceió is about 230 kilometres. Famous beaches are Pajacurá, Jacarecica, Guaxuma and Garca Torta.

Close to Maceió is the pleasant and quiet community Praia do Francés, which mostly in the weekends is visited by inhabitants of the city to escape the liveliness of the everyday life.

The city is famous for the good restaurants and for the nightlife, especially in the high season (December, January and July) you will hear the Brazilian music in the many beach pavilions.

day 6 Maceió
Today you have the whole day off to discover the city. You can take a walk along the boulevard or visit the village Praia do Francês, the French beach, at a distance of 30 km South of the city.
Lunchtip: restaurant Barbaroxa, situated along the road from Maceió to Praia do Francês.

day 7 Maceió to Japaratinga ca. 136 km
You will follow the AL105 further to the North and following the coast road. On the way you have enough time to stop in nice villages where you can see the Brazilian lifestyle.
You can choose to continue on the road to the North or you can take a little ferry from Porto de Pedra to Pontal de Boqueirão. This depends on the tie of the water. You will have dinner in Hotel Bitingui Praia and you will stay the night in this hotel.

Porto de Galinhas
The name of this seaside resort means ‘harbour of the cocks’ named after the African slaves who were brought here 400 years ago and were called 'Galinhas’.

Porto de Galinhas is situated about 70 kilometres to the South of Recife. It has developed itself the last few years in the touristic area and is famous for the vivid long beaches with many palm trees and crystal-clear water.
The towns offers the holidaymaker many possibilities to make some excusions, such as buggytours across the beach, walking tours, boat trips along the reefs in front of the coast and a boat trip to the island Santo Aleixo, a superbly place for diving and snorkling.
Besides that, Porto de Galinhas offers a great selection of good bars and restaurants, such as Bijupira, which is definitely recommended for lunch and diner!

day 9 Porto de Galinhas
Day at leisure to enjoy the beautiful beaches. You can rent a buggy, make a flight with an 'ultra-leve', or sail with a 'jangada' in the morning or afternoon (depending on the tides) to the natural swimmingpools in the reefs in front of the coast for excellent snorkeling.

day 10 Porto de Galinhas to Olinda 85 km
In the morning you are able to enjoy the swimmingpool or the beach. After lunch you go on your way for the last etappe of this journey. From Porto de Galinhas you will drive over a small road to the highway, which takes you to Recife. Just a couple of miles before Recife is Parque Guararapes, where you can bring a visit, before you drive any further to Olinda where the last two nights are spent.

Recife
Recife is a multicultural capital of the state Pernambuco with many Dutch influences and more than 3 million inhabitants, whereof many have a name that sounds Dutch.
Maurits van Oranje had built the first bridge in South-America and had the urban developers make a well structured plan for the city, whereby the base for the current Recife was beeing layed down.

Because of the radical renovation of the last years, the historical buildings (both Portuguese and Dutch) can be admired in full glory in old Recife.
In the evening hours many streets are disconnected for traffic, and terraces are placed where one can enjoy the delicious fish and meat dishes, for which the region is famous. After that there will be drinking and dancing to the Frevo, the Pernambucanian variant of the samba.

Besides the historical city with the beautiful long sandy beach, Recife is the biggest regional centre of economy, art and culture, education, sports and tourism. On Praça de Republica are some governments buildings with inbetween the theatre Santa Isabel, a beautiful neoclassical building from 1850, which can be visited daily between 14.00 hours and 15.00 hours.
On the same square there is also the tribunal building with opposite the Palácio das Princeses, the palace of the ‘governador’ of Pernambuco.

Rua do Imperador 206 is the home of the Capela Dourada from 1697. This ‘golden’ chapel, a beautiful example of the Brazilian religious architecture contends with the São Francisco in Salvador. A church museum can be found here.
The Casa Cultura is originally a prison from the 19th century, but the interior is renovated and cultivated which gives a cosy atmosphere. The cells on the 3 floors are now shops where you will find a great choice of products that are made of silver, leather and clay. You can buy also liqueur in a present packaging, paintings, pictures and wood carving.

day 11 Recife
Today you are able to discover the old Olinda on your own speed. There is also the possiblity to bring a visit to Igarassu and Itamaracá situated to the North of Recife.
