discovery of three mighty rivers
Period: 8 days / 7 nights
this specially designed eco-tour, acquiants you with the nicest part of the Amazon, where the mighty rivers Tapajós, Arapiúns and Amazon come together, making flora & fauna differ from each other. During the tour you will visit a number of Indian communities where it seems time stood still, but through the help of our agent the Indians are able to make some money as professional guides through the dense forest, offer lunches and a place for the night.
Overnights are primitive (hammocks) but we are sure that this eco-tour will leave an everlasting impression because of the many cultural and natural highlights!

most of our eco-adventure tours and trekkings are individually and/or in small international groups, and never consist of more than 12 - 15 persons.
Departure is on a daily basis, except for those tours where departure days are mentioned specifically.
Our eco-adventure tours are ideally designed to combine with an individual tour through Brazil: before, after or even during your individual tour you can fit an eco-adventure tour easily in your program, by which you can get an even more complete impression of Brazil.
All activities during the eco-adventure tours are depending on local weather conditions and reachability. For these reasons the route of a tour can be changed, when safety and comfort of the passengers can not be guaranteed due to these circumstances.

day 1
arrival in Santarém and transfer in an airconditioned vehicle to Alter do Chão. After check-in and a short welcome in our agents office by boat to the Green Lake, a calm innersea with a luscious vegetation. We will finish this trip at Cururú beach at the Tapajós river, where it is possible to see pink and gray dolphins at sunset. Our guide will make an excellent caipirinha to make this a real special moment. Dinner and evening at leisure in Alter do Chão.

day 2
after breakfast we will sail to the Tapajós National Forest (Flona), a primary forest characterized by big trees, white beaches, and traditional communities living by the river. We shall visit the community of Maguary to see the production of rubber leather and handicraft in the small factory which was set up with help of international communities.
From here we will begin a trek of three hours deep into the forest, seeing centennial trees, to eventually reach our goal, a giant Samaúma tree that needs 20 men holding each others hands to be rounded. In this magical place we'll prepare our dinner and camping, all night hearing the sounds of the night.

day 3
after a good and harty breakfast we will walk back to Manguary, where the clear Tapajós river is waiting for us for a delicious bath. We shall visit the next community, Jamaraguá, where a big stream originating in the forest floods into the river. This is one of the best places for snorkeling to see different kinds of aquarium fish.
In the afternoon we'll cross the river to the Tapajós Arapiuns Extractive Reserve to visit the Maripá community, nice beaches, two lakes, streams and many different options for trekking or cycling. A big hut especially built on the beach for visitors or palafitas over he water wait for us for our rest. During the evening we can snorkel and fish.

day 4
in the morning we'll visit the community, make a short trek and canoe on the streams full of vegetation. After lunch in a local families house we'll make a trek to Vila Anã, another community on the Arapiuns river, where some communitarian projects like beekeeping, fishing and turtle raising are started. We'll spend the night at a desert beach on this famous crystalline river.

day 5
this morning is dedicated to enjoy the beaches, fishing and rest. After lunch we will cross the Arapiuns river to visit Urucureá, an Indian community that invites us for a trek of one hour to reach the mighty Amazon river. During this trek we will see monkeys, colourful birds, squirrels and other species.

day 6
today is dedicated to the Varzea (flooded area) of the Amazon river. This is the richest area in animals during our trip. We can see dolphins, caimans, monkeys, iguanas, sloths, hundreds of birds and thousands of parakeets who sleep on a small Islands full of palm trees.
Around 18.00 hrs. we will be back in Alter do Chão. Dinner and evening on own.

day 7
today is at leisure to discover Alter do Chão on your own, shop at the (very well stocked!) Arariba souvenirshop, spend the day at the beaches of Ilha do Amor, or visit Santarém where, in front of the harbour, the famous 'meeting of the waters' can be seen.
In the evening a farewell barbeque is organised on the beach of Alter do Chão, offering roasted fisf, local drinks and a folcloric dance.

day 8
after breakfast transfer to the airport of Santarém for the continuation of your tour through Brazil.

this tour is best done in dry-season: June - December because of the many beautiful beaches. During the other months there are no beaches of significance.

Observations
- We recommend you to bring with you: a little backpack, comfortable clothes, 2 pair of comfortable tennisshoes, raincoat, waterbottle, pocketlamp, swimmingtrunk, shorts, cap, insect spray, sunprotector with a high factor, towel, foto-camera or video-camera.
- All kinds of ecotourism activities depend on adequate weather conditions and accessibility. Therefor, the above mentioned program is subject to modification, if the conditions could endanger the security or the comfort of the travellers.
- Our eco-tours are offered excluding tickets because these tours are often combined with other tours in Brazil. Braziltours can arrange all tickets, hotelnights, excursions and transfers.
- It is advisable to make reservations for your flights on a timely basis to obtain the cheapest fares posible.
